Moved from the a7 III to the a7 V for weddings and finds it a nice refinement, with better dynamic range and autofocus and longer shutter life.

“So far it feels like a nice refinement more than a huge upgrade for what I do”

Owns the a7 V and finds small birds can sometimes outrun its autofocus, especially when flying towards the camera.

“I have the A7V which is also 60 calculations per second and small birds can effectively out run the AF sometimes.”
mixedautofocus issues

“now I have the a7v. Happy with everything it can do. Best mix of everything.”

Stabilisation on their a7 V with the Tamron 35-150 works fine for handheld video, though IBIS reaches its limit at long focal lengths.

positivefast autofocus

Their a7 V is near 20,000 shots with no issues.

“My a7v is close to 20,000, again, no issues.”
positive

Upgraded from an a7 III to the a7 V and found it a nice quality-of-life update, but without a change in image quality; a better lens made a much bigger difference.

“while the a7iii to a7v is a nice quality-of-life update, the image quality hasn't changed. Extra features are cool and all, but the jump in”
mixed

Moved to the a7 V for sports, keeping an a6700 too; the full-frame advantage is mostly quality-of-life features like 30 fps and pre-capture rather than sensor size.

“finally moved to the A7V for sports photography. sold my sigma 17-40 f1.8 and kept some viltrox prime lenses for travel. the sigma was great but at that size it felt like a FF set”
positive

Replacing their a6700 with the a7 V and finds it worth the bigger size for its much better autofocus and low-light performance.

“I’m getting rid of my a6700 for my A7V and it is absolutely worth the bigger size. Way better autofocus and low light”
positivefast autofocusgreat low light

Mostly uses the a7 V's mechanical shutter for better low-ISO dynamic range and less banding under artificial light, using the electronic shutter only for bulk JPEG events.

“I thought I'd use the e-shutter more when I got the A7V but I end up just using the mech for that extra DR at low ISO and reduced banding from artificial lights at high ISO.”
mixed

Noticed that their a7 V sometimes takes out-of-focus shots even with AF-C release priority set to AF, unlike their old a7 III.

“the only thing I've noticed about the A7V, possibly a bug, is that even when I set AF-C release priority to AF, it still takes OOF images sometimes. A7III would limit my shooting speed if”
mixedautofocus issues

Shooting their running son with the a7 V and Tamron 35-100, AF sticks but bursts leave most frames slightly or fully out of focus; their Lumix and X-M5 seemed to hit more often, though the lens may be to blame.

“I feel like when i go to shoot photos of my son running around, on the swingset, etc, the af is sticky sure but when i”

Just moved from an a7 IV to the a7 V and is happier than with any camera in years: colours and skin tones need far less editing, and they prefer its video to the FX6 they sold. Says the autofocus is fantastic, battery life is good, and it's unbeatable for the price.

“Just got an a7v and haven’t been this happy about a camera in ages. The image and colour requires such less work to get where I want than the previous a7iv I was using and skintones finally look good.”
positivegreat coloursgreat videofast autofocus

Owns both the original A1 and the A7V, and previously an A9. Prefers the A7V for video because its AI autofocus keeps the intended subject even behind clutter, and its controls and screen are better. Still prefers the A1's faster readout for sports and wildlife.

“I prefer the A7V over the A1 for video work. The readout speed is a bit slower, but the AI autofocus system, controls, and tilt/flip screen are far superior.”

Shoots wildlife with the A7V and hasn't noticed any rolling shutter. Suggests renting one to check before buying.

“No other way to know than to try, i do wildlife with the A7V and the rolling shutter is imperceptable. Though i can imagine youd like precapture for it if you can get it.”
positive

Owns both the a7C II and the a7 V. Loves the a7 V's screen and fast CFexpress slot and would keep it if they could only have one, though they still prefer the smaller C body.

“I also love the screen on the V and the CF Express card that’s a lot faster than any SD card I own”
