Bought the X-E5 for travel and hasn't used their A7 IV since.
“I bought a Fuji x-e5 (very similiar to the x100vi) for travel on an impulse”
Sold their Canon wedding kit for the X-E5 and loves it: fantastic images in a small package, though heavier than expected compared with an original X100.
“I sold my old pro gear, Canon 5dmkii, 24-70mm F2.8, 85mm F1. 2 (used to do weddings) and purchased the X-E5. I love this little thing, fantastic images and small package.”
Their first Fujifilm, used for about 4,600 shots with seven lenses; keeping it for daytime street photography while a Sony A7R V handles low light.
“I got my X-E5 mid August 2025 and is my first experience with Fujifilm. After 7 lenses and almost 4600 shots, I still use it mostly for daytime street photography”
Regrets trading their X-T5 for it: it overheats quickly in casual street shooting, drains batteries fast, and they miss the X-T5's multi-tilt screen.
“I traded in my XT5 for my current XE5. I somewhat regret that decision. The XE5 overheats like crazy fast even though I was only using it normally for casual street photography.”
Still has the sleep issue after updates; it eats batteries, needing three spares, and overheated and shut down after an hour on first use indoors.
“My biggest issue is that it is a power hog. I carry three batteries and switch them out often. Also, the first time I used the camera I had it on for an hour, it over heated and shut down.”
Swapped their X100VI for it and really loves it, especially with manual-focus lenses; wishes it had weather sealing and an aspect-ratio dial instead of the film simulation dial.
“Got rid of my X100VI and got the x-e5 instead. Really love this camera, especially paired with manual focus lenses!”
Their six-month-old X-E5 has more worn paint than their ten-year-old X-E2S, which they see as a decline in Fujifilm build quality.
“This X-E5 is half a year old and has more worn off paint that my 10 years old X-E2s. My X-H2s has the same issues.”
Shot the X-E5 and X-T50 side by side for three weeks and chose the X-T50; finds the X-E5 flawed and needing compromises.
“The X-E5 is a flawed camera that you have to make exceptions for, the X-T50 you do not, it’s simply a more mature and cohesive design.”
Replaced their X-T5 with the X-E5, which they can't fault and use more than their X-Pro2.
“The Xpro2 still feels like my favourite camera, but I can't fault the XE5”
Set the X-E5's sim dial once and never touched it, wishing for a drive or ISO dial instead.
“I have an X-E5 and turned the dial once to my favorite film sim (Reala Ace) and never touched the dial again.”
Loves their X-E5 but leaves the sim dial on C and switches recipes via the Q button.
“I love my xe5 but my dial stays on C 24/7 and I rotate recipes quickly via Q button.”
Loves their new X-E5 after the X-T20, but finds the sim dial and recipe handling really frustrating.
“I am upgrading from an XT20 and I love the new camera, but their Recipe philosophy is \_really\_ disappointing.”
Returned the X-E5 after two weeks despite IBIS good to 1/4s, a premium feel and useful teleconverter.
“IBIS which can really do 1/4 handheld with the kit lens, good for video.”
Liked the X-E5's IBIS and teleconverter but disliked detail loss above ISO 1600.
“I don't like the 40MPx sensor because of detail loss above ISO1600.”

“I got the X-T30 III as first camera and then sold it to get the X-E5. Totally worth it!”

“Was on a fence with X-E5 but now I take it with me pretty much everywhere by default, as it does everything”
Moved from the X-E4 to the X-E5 and appreciates the extra buttons and grip.
“upgraded to X-E5 and i noticed how good it was to have a few extra buttons and grip.”

“I sold it and got an x-e5 and it’s perfect. It’s actually reignited my love for photography again”
Likes their X-E5 but uses their Ricoh GR IV ten times as much.
“I have an XE5 and I like it; however, especially for portability, and film sims: i'd suggest a Ricoh GR4”
Very happy with the X-E5 but it heats up quickly in video with short battery life.
“It's great camera I'm very happy with it.”
The X-E5 quickly replaced their X-Pro3 and is a fantastic everyday camera.
“It’s been a fantastic little camera and it’s my EDC now.”
First real camera: the X-E5 with pancake is fun to carry and gets them shooting more.
“The size/weight and form factor of the combination make it so much fun to carry and use.”
Returned the X-E5 and kept a Sony a7C for AF with kids.
“bought XE5 3 mins after launch and returned it.”
Plans to sell the X-E5: heavier and wider than the X-E3 with huge raw files.

Owns both and finds the X-E5's feel on another level than the X100VI.
“Amazing how cheap the x-e5 makes the 100vi feel.”
Their X-E5's strap eyelet fell off and the camera would then only power on via USB-C.
“Yesterday, while programming recipes into the camera on the sofa, the eyelet just fell off.”
Their X-E5's eyelet came off within two months and the camera no longer turns on.
“The same thing happened to me, the eyelet came off along with the attached strap, and the camera wouldn't and still hasn't been able to turn on.”
Their X-E5's eyelet fell off and it won't turn on; really disappointed.
“Same has just happened to mine, eyelet fallen off and camera won't turn on.”
After an hour-long photo walk, found the X-E5 capable but the lack of grip cramped their hand.
“It’s a really capable little camera, but the lack of grip had my hand cramping.”
Selling the X-E5: awful film sim dial, fiddly controls and awful battery life needing three spares a day.
“the film simulation dial is beyond awful and practically as unusable as it is necessary.”
Only wishes their X-E5 had weather sealing.
“Only thing I wish my X-E5 had is weatherproofing.”

“Overall I felt more “in the moment” with the XT50 just because of the grip.”
Sold an X-T3 for a Sony a7C II, regretted it, and is now happy with the X-E5.
“I am now happy with my X-E5”
First week with the X-E5 and manual lenses: small and quiet enough to always carry, though the low-res EVF makes focus a guess.
“Small enough to always carry.”

“I’m enjoying the camera so far. The build is solid.”
Finds the X-E5 overpriced and misses their Lumix S9.
“i have this and it made me miss my panasonic lumix s9. overpriced, honestly.”
Loving the experience and results from the X-E5.
“Been loving the experience (and results) on my X-E5 with the Viltrox 25mm f/1.7”
Returning the X-E5 the day after delivery because sharp edges make the ergonomics terrible.
“It’s a nice camera, but the ergonomics are terrible. The edges are too sharp”

“I enjoy the versatility of my X-E5. I feel like I essentially get the benefits of an XT5 and X100VI in one body.”
Uses the X-E5 with the 23mm kit lens 98% of the time; the 40MP sensor allows heavy cropping.
“The 40MP sensor lets me crop heavily without losing much quality”
Two weeks into the X-E5 after Sony: struggling with AF but loving the SOOC results.
“I am struggling a bit with auto focus and getting sharp images focused on the right areas.”
Returned the X-E5 after a week over ~5-second startup and playback delays and an eye sensor that blanks the screen.
“I just can’t stand the delay in startup and play button”
Their X-E5 only shows startup delay with the 23mm pancake; other lenses work fine.
“I have one. The only delay is with the new 23mm pancake.”
Uses big zooms on the X-E5 and got used to them.
“I use the OG 16-55 and the Tamron 18-300 on my X-E5 and you do get used to them.”
Uses the X-E5 for weekend fun; slow but enjoyable compared with their Nikon Z8.
“I work so much faster and efficiently with my Z8 and dials than I do with the slow yet enjoyable to use X-e5 I have for weekend, non-work usage.”
Returned the X-E5 after two weeks because it was uncomfortable to handle, even with a grip.
“But.. I sent it back after 2 weeks of use. I just didn't take it outside because I couldn't handle it properly.”
The X-E5's IBIS is good enough that the f2.8 kit pancake is plenty fast at night.
“Even my kit 23mm f2.8 pancake is plenty fast on my X-E5. The IBIS is that good.”
Likes their X-E5 but its ergonomics aren't great with big lenses.
“I got an X-E5 for fun and I do like that but I have to admit, the ergonomics aren’t fantastic, especially if you use a big lens”
Moved from an X-Pro2 a couple of months ago for a more hybrid camera; it has been great and super fun to use, though the odd sleep-mode behaviour bothers them.
“It inspired me to get the XE5 a couple months ago from the xpro2 to give a more hybrid option. It’s been great. It does have that weird sleep mode thing you mentioned.”
One strap eyelet on their X-E5 was wobbly and needed service.

“X-E5 and couldn’t be happier!”
After a week, calls the X-E5 one of Fuji's best.

Their new X-E5's power switch feels mushy; other dials are great.
“Mine is a bit mushy (bought 10 days ago). Rest of the dials and buttons are great.”

“It physically feels like the x100 but it was more fun to use especially with the cropping in body”
Picked up the X-E5 and finds it stunning and good in the hand, though the small EVF is hard to use with glasses.
“Now, the camera is stunning. It feels good in the hand, it's smaller than I had anticipated but feels just right. I am surprised at how small the EVF is.”

“I'm thinking of trading it in for the X-H2s, as I tend to shoot in darker environments and fast subjects.”

“It's very intuitive, I like the film Sims but totally get it's a personal preference.”

“Beautiful, but handling was horrible. I returned it and I’ve stuck with the X-T50”

“The XE5 is used exclusively for work/studio use as it's just significantly heavier than the xm5 so much so that i hate lugging it around in public”

“I use the standard pancake lens mostly and find it is perfect for travel”
Very happy overall with the X-E5; gripes are a flimsy battery door, a useless film sim dial, ergonomics and no flash.

Just bought the X-E5 as a walk-around camera; much faster than their old X-Pro2 and a wonderful camera.
“However the xe5 is so much faster, it is just a wonderful camera”
Got the X-E5 last month as a light travel camera after the Nikon Zf proved too heavy, and couldn't be happier with its light body and compact lenses.
“Last month I got a Fuji X-E5 and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The build is nice and light and the lenses are also light and compact”
Has owned both the X100VI and the X-E5 and calls the X-E5 phenomenal.
“It's a phenomenal camera.”
After a Nikon Z8 and Sony a7C II, which still felt too big, bought a used X-E5 and hasn't touched the Sony since.
“Eventually, I bought a used X-E5, and I haven’t touched the Sony since that day.”
Switched from a heavy Panasonic full frame to the X-E5 but found its dials frustrating and sold it.
“I switched to a Fuji x-e5 and was frustrated with the dials, I thought it would be more user-friendly but it's very different. I sold it and got the Sony”
Bought the X-E5 last year and compared it with a Leica M11-P, Q3 and GFX, but still prefers their old X-E3.
“I bought the X-E5 last year and compared it to the M11p, Q3, and GFX. Still prefer the X-E3, except I gave it to my friend for along term”
Had an X-E5 but much prefers their X-S10, which feels better in the hand and has more familiar controls.
“I had a xe5 and have a xs10. I much prefer the xs10. It will be more familiar to your Sony as far as controls and stuff.”
Bought the X-E5 to replace their X-T3 as an everyday camera but still finds themselves shooting the X-T3 instead.
“I even purchased X-E5 to replace X-T3 with but then some odd reason I still shoot with X-T3. I notice people talking about Nikon ZFc”
Moved from an X-Pro2 to the X-E5 and loves it for being compact with interchangeable lenses.
“I had a XPro-2 but now have a X-E5 and love it. It is compact and you can switch lenses.”
Moved from an X-Pro2 to the X-E5 and hasn't found its in-body stabilisation useful, since they don't shoot video or night landscapes. Finds the Fuji files bloated and is considering a Canon R8.
“I went from Fuji xpro2 to xe5 and have not noticed the usefulness of IBIS at all as I don’t shoot video or night time landscapes.”
Shoots the X-E5 with a 28mm-equivalent lens and the Acros B&W simulation alongside a Leica Q2 Monochrom, and finds the out-of-camera results hard to tell apart for 11x17 prints. Smaller and lighter, it's become the camera they grab more often.
“I find the Fuji is smaller and lighter, has a Q3-style folding screen that the Q2 doesn't have (I never use them anyway), and I seem to be grabbing it over my Q2 Monochrom more and more.”
Says the X-E5 brought back their enjoyment of photography: it's fun, and it can stay compact or take bigger lenses. Got bored of an older X100.
“XE5 literally brought my spark back. It’s so much fun. Best part, you can stay compact or go nuts with a simple lens change.”
