Two years with the R7: very good autofocus for birds in flight, fast dogs and aircraft, but the full-speed electronic shutter is poor, so they use EFCS at 15 fps.

“I've had an R7 for a couple of years and the autofocus has been very good, but reading some comments here you would think it's rubbish. The caveat”

Sold their R7 last year for the R6 Mark II because of its third wheel, battery-grip support and the R7's minor focus problems.

“The r7 is a great camera, but in comparison the r6ii won (sold my r7 last year) for three reasons: third wheel, battery grip, minor focus problems. I'd”

Uses the R7 with the EF 100-400 II for wildlife and calls it an amazing combo: very sharp, not too heavy, and great battery life.

“I personally have the r7 with the ef 100 400 ii, I'm looking for 1.4tc but I can't find it at all, there's only the mark ii version”

Has had no issues shooting wildlife with the R7; its AF lacks newer subject priority but is solid and better than Canon DSLRs.

“I have had no issue with wildlife on my R7. It doesn’t necessarily have the target priority/facial recognition of newer bodies like the R5 II or R6 III”

Came from a 50D to the R7 and finds it perfectly capable, with excellent autofocus and far better low-light performance outside extreme situations.

“I came from a 50d to the r7 so perhaps it's relative, but in my experience the r7 is a perfectly capable camera and outside of extremes has”

Upgraded from the R50 to the R7. The second dial, dual back-button AF, pre-capture and a much bigger grip make a big difference for bird photography.

“the second dial is a game changer. For me primarily shooting birds dual back button af one for eye tracking one for spot. Pre capture but it's admittedly”

Loves the R7, which gives more keepers than any camera they've had, but avoids the electronic shutter because of rolling shutter, and distant subjects can lose focus to the background.

“I love my R7. It gives more keepers than any camera I've had. But there are some compromises.”

Uses the R7's electronic shutter 95% of the time and tracks moving subjects better that way; thinks rolling shutter is exaggerated.

“I'm an outlier in that I use electronic shutter on R7 95% of the time. Really the only times I don't is indoors and macro with a flash. Some things like hummingbirds I may switch to efcs again.”

Had a lot of shutter shock with the R7, and its fully mechanical shutter is loud.

“When I had my R7, shutter shock was a pretty big problem. plus, the full mechanical shutter on the R7 is pretty loud.”

First camera since a 1990s 35mm: very happy with the R7 for wildlife and kids' sports, paired with the small RF 70-200 f/4.

“I have an R7 and have been very happy with it. Important caveat that I bought it as my first camera since an old 35mm that I got in college in the 1990s so I’m not exactly an expert.”
positive

Loves the R7; denoise software makes its low-light performance a non-issue, even a shot at ISO 32000 of their son.

“I love my R7, at first I thought I missed out and should have got the R6 mark II but that was a me problem and with mediocre glass the denoise programs are so good now low light performance of”

The R7 is their preferred body for motorsports and field sports; the R6 Mark II's AF is better but matters little when focal-length limited.

“the R7 is my preferred body for motorsports and field sports. There are some AF benefits found in newer bodies like my R6m2, but aren't enough of an issue when you're focal length limited.”

Regrets buying the R7 because of focus pulsing and reaches for their R5 almost every time.

“Due to the focus pulsing on the r7, I regret my purchase and find myself reaching for my r5 19 times out of 20.”

Loves the R7 they bought at launch, but its dense sensor struggles in low light; Lightroom denoise cleans up event shots up to ISO 12,800.

“I bought the R7 at launch, and love it. But it does have it's limitations.”

Switched from the RP to the R7 after the RP's autofocus hunted in the Everglades; finds both the R7 and R6 Mark II do really well with AF.

“I switched to the r7 after going to the everglades with my RP and just hating how much it hunted, I agree it does a great job, I have it and the R6mk2 and both do really well with AF”

Has used the R7 since launch with a Sigma 150-600 and gets a keeper rate well above 15%, even on hummingbirds without flash.

“I've had the R7 since launch and my keeper rate is for sure higher than 15%, and this is with the Sigma 150-600 which can't keep up the mirrorless AF. It when works for hummingbirds (no flash)”

Got very frustrated with the R7's autofocus: their R50 produced more keepers. Traded it for an R6 Mark II.

“I got really frustrated with my r7’s auto focus. I was shocked, my lowly r50 produced way more ‘keepers’.”

Has both the R50 and R7 with a Sigma 16-300; both shoot fine, but the R7 is the better performer all round.

“I have an R50 and got the R7. And the Sigma 16-300mm. I was going to sell the R50 but my wife wanted something to shoot with that's "not my toy". So we now have them both.”

Bought a refurbished R7 kit with the 18-150 on sale and finds its autofocus far better than their old setup.

“The autofocus is so much better than my old setup.”

Returned an R50 within a day for the R7; the ergonomics alone were a game changer.

“I owned the R50 for less than a day. I'd bought on Amazon and returned to get the R7 instead. The ergonomics alone were an absolute game changer.”

Owns an R7 and mostly shoots lenses without stabilisation, relying on its in-body stabilisation without any trouble. Has also used Sony, sold it all and went back to Canon, and suggests trading an R10 in for an R7.

“Canon R7 has IBIS. i own one and mostly use lenses without IS: i have no problem with it”
