MAX2

Chose the Max 2 over the Insta360 X4/X5 and DJI for a rugged, slim 360 camera that works with existing GoPro accessories; very pleased with results despite a weak native PC editing app.

Bought the Max 2 on release day and is very happy with it for their needs, while noting DJI's competition is getting close thanks to shared batteries, fast charging and mic integration.

Used the Max 2 for kiting and wingfoiling; its lenses repel water far worse than the original Max or Hero models, giving basically zero usable footage after six sessions, plus lens condensation. Image quality and size are otherwise praised.

Their Max 2 nightlapse wobbled and stitched poorly when mounted on its side; fixed by using the Player app, but stitching errors remain.

Finds Max 2 video looks like 720p on overcast days, though fine in sun, unlike their HERO13.

Their new Max 2 has 1-2mm of wiggle in the camera-side mount, which feels poor on a helmet.

Found Max 2 photo timelapse quality poor outside perfect lighting but accepts it as a 360 camera limit.

Loves the Max 2 and GoPro ecosystem but finds it struggles badly without clear skies and bright sun, needing a bigger sensor.

Finds the Max 2 picture amazing and gets about 56 minutes of 8K30 at a hockey game, but sees jitter in long files.

Pleasantly surprised by Max 2 footage shot in 8K Log at 200Mb/s and graded in the Quik app for client work.

Uses the Max 2 as a dashcam but finds the Windows app broken and wants a real desktop editor.

Finds the Max 2 cool but still reaches for their HERO11 more, as 360 is niche.

“It’s a cool device but I’m still reaching for my GoPro 11 more.”

Runs their Max 2 with Labs at 300 Mbps with no issues and finds batteries last long enough.

“Haven’t had any issues, batteries last long enough I only being 2 with me at this point.”

Owns the HERO13, Max 2, X5 and Ace Pro and likes the Max 2 more than the X5 for a snowboard trip.

Rode two weekends with the Max 2 on 45+ minute laps with no overheating, smoother than their HERO11 though low light is only similar.

Compared 360 photos and found their Max 2 less clear than their original Max, a disappointment.

Their pre-ordered Max 2 overheated and shut down five times at 5.6K60, even in 71F shade.

After an hour with the Max 2 finds dynamic range and colour better than the original Max but noise just as bad and little extra detail.

“I have only played around with it for about an hour, but I am not impressed.”

Owns the Max 2 and X5 and finds the Max 2's direct-sunlight performance better, with working GPS.
